Metering helps you measure the amount of light you want for your picture. The way you use metering is by pushing the button half way down on the area you want to put the focus on so that the camera knows how much light is going to be distributed. So in the first photo eveything is dark except for the computer, and that is because I focused the camera on the computer and not on myself. In the second photo i did the exact opposite, I focused the camera on myself and no the computer. Its very handy to know because in the past all of my photos came out horrible!
